THE STORY BEHIND THE SONG... Sometimes life really hurts. Searingly so. During those times, I really have just wanted to quit life. Not really die, per se, but just be done with it all on some level. But then I'll go to sleep and wake the next morning. Life begins again and I get out of bed and breathe and begin to move ... and notice the sun. Somehow it all feels different. Much like a mountainside visited by a gentle summer shower, I'm washed clean by the new start.

"Summer Rain" defines that mood for me. When I was a little girl, each summer my family would retire to a tiny town in the tops of the Rockies. Nearly every day during those summer months, a simple and brief shower would mist the mountainside. The air became fresh. The world became new. The gentle rain only lasted fifteen minutes or so each time it visited, but the renewal it brought lasted much longer.

I wrote this song to celebrate the awareness that life is never so bleak that it is worth ending.
